Under trial hangs himself to death under mysterious circumstances

JAMMU, Apr 8: A 55 year old under trial prisoner from Punjab allegedly hanged himself to death in Kathua jail here this morning, police said.
Police said his dead body was seen by other under trials in the jail bathroom in the morning which was hanging with a bed sheet to the ceiling.
He has been identified as Rajinder Singh, 55, a resident of Abohar tehsil in Fazilka, Punjab. He was arrested one and half years ago under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by Lakhanpur Police.
This morning, some inmates noticed that Rajinder’s body was hanging in a bathroom police said. A police team reached the spot and recovered the body.  The body was shifted to mortuary of GMC Kathua for post-mortem. It will be handed over to his family members who have been informed about the same. Police has started investigation into the matter.
A team of jail officers from Jammu also visited Kathua to ascertain the situation.
