NEW DELHI, Dec 13: Uncertainity over Government formation in Delhi persisted today as Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said “all options are open”.
“We have to keep in mind all options according to the mandate given by people of Delhi,” AAP leader Kumar Vishwas told reporters here.
AAP leaders met to decide the party’s strategy after Lt Governor Najeeb Jung called Mr Kejriwal to discuss Government formation as the BJP, which bagged 31 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, declined to form a Government.
In a spectacular performance in the polls, the AAP got 28 seats followed by the Congress, which was removed from the power and managed only eight seats.
“The BJP has more seats than us. The BJP should have form the Government,” Mr Vishwas said.
He refuted that the AAP has any personal ambitions behind its stand of refusing to form Government so far.
Another AAP leader Manish Sisodia said the party was stick to its earlier stand that it would not stake claim to form Government as it has failed to get 36 seats which are required to come to power.
The Lt Governor has called Mr Kejriwal tomorrow to discuss Government formation.
BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan last night declined to form the Government after meeting with the Lt Governor saying that it was ready to sit in opposition as people have not given the party a clear mandate to form the Government.
If Mr Kejriwal also refused to form the Government, the Lt Governor is likely to recommend President’s Rule in the national capital.
In such a scenario, elections in Delhi are likely to he held along with the general elections in April-May next year.
The Congress has slammed both the AAP and the BJP saying they were not respecting people’s mandate.
However, sources said the Congress was also considering giving outside support to the AAP to form the Government but the latter has refused any such alliance. (UNI)
