The unabated drug menace is a cause of great concern to media men, administration and public at large. J&K State has become the hub of opium and narcotic drugs being directly smuggled from Pakistan and Afghanistan and brought to Kashmir. BSF caught some of the drug tuskers and one of them plainly revealed that these drugs are supplied to Kashmiri youth to activate their anti national activities.
This is a dangerous signal for the State, if the youth, who is on the crossroads of their career is led astray by the excessive use of narcotic drugs, the future of the State shall be on the brink of great disaster. This menace of drug addiction has sapped the vitals of youngsters as maximum of college and university attending students have been entrapped by this deadly monster of drugs.
It is the first and fore most duty of the State administration to send a team of counsellers and psychologists to colleges and universities to educate the youth about the deadly effect of drugs with the slogan, “Drug addiction is death invitation.”
Secondly, there must be proper vigil on the borders to check drug trafficking and the arrested drug traffickers must be dealt with an iron hand. Thirdly, the gangs of drug tuskers should be nabbed by the State police. Fourthly, the drug addicted people who show negative signs should be sent to rehabilitation homes. Lastly, it is the duty of parents, NGOs and civil society to make the budding youth aware of the negative use of drugs with the slogan, “Say no to drugs to save precious lives.”
