At the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) Advisory Board Meeting in the United Nations, India has called the UN to precisely define its role in countering the phenomenon of terrorism which has become the single deadliest threat to the security and safety of life world over. The UN has to come out with clear policy of recommending the world community to bring about new and effective legal framework that would adequately deal with terrorist elements threatening peaceful societies across the globe. India demands that the UN evolve a proper legal and logistical framework for punishing cross border terrorism and countries encouraging terrorist outfits receiving training in arms and subversion and then sneaking into neighbouring countries to unleash mayhem.
It has to be noted that India is a victim of terrorism caused by terrorists who infiltrate from a neighbouring country which has adopted the denial tactics. The world community must suggest and approve punitive measures against countries that are harbouring and patronizing terrorist activities on their soil. It is no excuse that there are non-state actors, and the local Government cannot do anything to curb them. International community cannot close its eyes to a calumny of the sort. Moreover a country cannot adopt double standards of treating the terrorists on its soil. India has raised very cogent points in the context of the agenda before the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) Advisory Board. The UN as well as the countries that are affected by terrorism must come forward with constructive suggestions in this behalf.
