JAMMU Oct 30: Department of Cardiology Government Medical College, Jammu organised an evening symposium which was attended by more than 250 delegates and doctors, the theme of the symposium was innovative therapy for Resistant Hypertension and in this regard, keynote address was delivered by Dr Simon Thackray Consultant Interventional Cardiologist from University of Hull, East Yorkshire (UK). Dr Thackray emphasized the need for controlling hypertension with pharmacotherapy but advocated in resistant hypertension a new technique of Renal artery denervation therapy.
Dr Thackray elaborated about global epidemic of hypertension and casual approach towards management of this dreadful precursor of many critical events. Cessation of smoking in addition to regular use of anti hypertensive drugs and intervention in case of resistant hypertension is key to good health in general Dr Thackray was very much appreciative of approach and progress shown by the Department of Cardiology GMC, Jammu.
Dr Sushil Sharma Head Department of Cardiology thanked Dr Thackray for visiting GMC Jammu and sharing knowledge and techniques in the era of Cardiac Intervention. These interactions shall help in long run for better patient management. On this occasion on behalf of the department; Dr Simon Thackray along with Dr Sushil Sharma honoured Dr Mohan Lal Ex Head Department of Cardiology and Dr Gurjit Singh Head of CTVS GMC Jammu signifying their contribution towards the heart patients. Present on the occasion was Dr Madhu Khullar Director Health Services Jammu, along with faculty members. Post graduates and staff of Government Medical College Jammu.
