Unbelievable it sounds, that even after 70 years of our independence, 5000 people living around ten villages of Badhota and Galiote Panchayats in Panchari Tehsil of District Udhampur are without electricity and road connectivity. While their patience is praiseworthy, at the same time it is a sad commentary on all successive state Governments for having continuously ignored and avoided them. Let it be unequivocally stated that neither independence nor tall claims of successive state Governments have meant anything to them.
Whether it is Congress Government’s Rajiv Gandhi Gram Vidyut Yojna (RGGVY) or NDA’s Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DUGJY), these villages have remained bereft of the basic requirement of the electricity. Not only this, the hilly villages having a population of more than 600 people in each village, are deprived of road connectivity.
The claims of the State Government of catering to the needs of villages in these two areas under schemes like DUGJY, PMGSY, CRF, NABARD etc in the instant matter, confirms that there was a huge gap between the statements and the praxis which needs to be bridged. Could these villages, now, in this summer, get electricity before we revert to the subject as our usual follow- up on a continuous basis?
