UDHAMPUR, Apr 14: Union Minister and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Parliamentary constituency Dr Jitendra Singh said today that the two Highway Haats / Villages coming up in Udhampur and Kathua are going to emerge as attractive destinations and transit points for highway travelers.
Addressing a series of election meetings in the suburbs of Udhampur city, Dr Jitendra Singh was felicitated by Panchayat Gornai in the outskirts of Udhampur city, where the construction is under progress to establish a Highway Haat in the village and is scheduled to be completed and become functional by the latter-half of 2020.
Referring to some other important projects brought in Udhampur in the last five years, including River Devika Rejuvenation Project, new Radio Station, Passport Office, etc, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this was all possible because of Narendra Modi being the Prime Minister who has special concern and sensitiveness for peripheral and far-flung areas.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sensitivity which prompted the government to undertake a survey to identify the un-electrified villages in the country, following which a time-bound rural electrification drive was launched under “Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana” (DDUGJY) and today, virtually 90% of the hitherto un-electrified villages have been electrified. Referring to the social change brought about by these reforms, he cited the case of an elderly woman in the upper reaches of Reasi, who at the age of nearly 80 years, confessed before the camera that she had seen an electric bulb for the first time in her life.
Whether it is the free-gas cylinder under “Ujjwala Scheme” or “Ayushman Bharat” Health Insurance Cover Scheme or constructing Pakka Houses for the poor under “Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana”, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the benefits have reached the needy without any distinction of caste, creed or religion. Therefore, he exuded confidence that this time, even the family members of the Congress leaders are going to vote for Bharatiya Janata Party.
Former Minister and MLA Udhampur Pawan Gupta accompanied Dr Jitendra Singh during these meetings.
