Udhampur Attack: Court grants 3-day police custody of Naved to NIA

JAMMU: A Special Court today granted three days custody of Mohammad Naved to the National Investigation Agency in the much-publicised August 5 Udhampur attack case, in which a militant was killed, two BSF personnel were martyred and one LeT terrorist Naved was arrested alive.

Special Judge NIA YP Kotwal gave the order on an application filed by Chief Investigating Officer Atul Goel, seeking change of custody of Mohd Naveed alias Usman, who is presently on Judicial remand and lodged in Central Jail.

He was sent to judicial custody earlier on the ground that co-accused Shahbzar Ahmed of Kulgam has been arrested on October 13 and during interrogation, he revealed fresh facts leading to the terrorist act, which was subject matter of the instant investigation and some material objects were seized during the investigation that were required to be placed before Mohammad Naved for identification.

Mr Kotwal observed that in view of the facts of the case and arrest of accused Shahbzar Ahmed, change of custody of Mohd Naved from Judicial to police custody was allowed for a period of three days from October 17.

The Court directed the Superintendent Central Jail to handover his custody to CIO NIA for custodial investigation for a period of three days and handover the accused back to Superintendent Central Jail, Jammu on October 19.

Meanwhile, the Court also granted seven days police remand to Shahbzar Ahmed, who was arrested by the NIA. (AGENCIES)
