All domestic fowls to be culled in 1 km area

UDHAMPUR, Jan 31: In order to assess and contain the situation arising out of confirmation of an Avian influenza (H5N8) in domestic fowl in Panchayat Dhandal west Block Jaganoo of district Udhampur, on the direction of DDC Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla today, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Mohd Syed Khan convened an emergency meeting with officers of different departments at Mini Conference Hall DC Office Complex Udhampur.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Udhampur Dr Inderjeet Singh informed the meeting that one domestic fowl has been tested positive for Avian Influenza stain at village Dhandal west ward number -2 Block Jaganoo of Udhampur district. In this connection to contain the spread of this disease it was decided to cull all domestic fowls as per norm in the vicinity of one km area, for which team of officers and officials have been constituted to carry out culling and proper disposal there of.CAHO & Tehsildar were directed to keep a strict surveillance and sampling in the vicinity of 10 km area from the infected area.Area has been declared as infected area as per the norms.
The ADC stressed upon the Animal Husbandry Department to evolve an effective containment strategy for early detection of positive cases for controlling the spread of Avian Influenza. Rural Development Department has been asked to carry out mass awareness among the people in coordination with PRIs about the preventive measures of Avian Influenza in the District. Further, the sale of chicken in the vicinity of 10 km area where infected case found has been strictly prohibited. CAHO was asked for strict vigilance and surveillance in the area. Department has been tasked to carry out culling of birds as per prescribed norms immediately.
