SRINAGAR:
Two security personnel were killed and three persons injured in an encounter with militants in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants in Kunzer village, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, a police official said.
He said a gun battle broke out when militants opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated. However, the militants, believed to be at least two in number, managed to escape from the scene, the official added.
A policeman and an Army jawan were killed, while two other soldiers and a civilian sustained injuries in the exchange of firing, the official said.
A massive search operation was launched to track down the militants, the official said. (AGENCIES)
