Weekend lockdown in Kathua too, curbs extended in Samba
Doc, Govt officials, shopkeepers among 133 positive

JAMMU, July 29: Two young female private professionals hired by the Raj Bhawan for profiling one-year achievement of Jammu and Kashmir Government after becoming the Union Territory tested positive for COVID-19 here today while a senior bureaucrat of the Raj Bhawan and another professional reported negative. A total of 133 persons were today tested positive for the virus in Jammu while Kathua became fourth district in the region to impose weekend lockdown and restrictions were extended in four tehsils of Samba district till August 4.
A doctor and two Health and Education Department officials in Poonch, three CRPF personnel on duty at quarantine centre in Udhampur, 16 CRPF jawans in Jammu district including six each at Bantalab and Training Camp and four in 76th battalion, 12 CISF troops and three members of family in Kathua and three shopkeepers in Rajouri were among positives of the region. Seventy Corona patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals.
Reports said the samples of three private professionals and a senior bureaucrat of the Raj Bhawan were taken and of them, two young female professionals tested positive for COVID-19 and were shifted for treatment. The bureaucrat and another male professional tested negative.
The private professionals were reportedly working on profiling achievements of the J&K Government on completion of one year of the Union Territory on August 5.
Incharge Police Post Nehru Market in Jammu district and three cops of the Post tested positive for the virus tonight. Earlier, a cop of the Police Post had tested positive.
Meanwhile, the administration in Kathua today ordered weekend lockdown in the district from 5 pm Friday beginning July 31 to 6 am till Monday every week till further orders. An order to this effect was issued by District Magistrate OP Bhagat. It said the essential services will remain operational.
Weekend lockdown was imposed last week in Jammu, Udhampur and Rajouri districts.
District Magistrate Samba Rohit Khajuria has also extended lockdown in Samba, Ghagwal, Vijaypur and Bari Brahmana tehsils till August 4.
For second time today, the Microbiology Department of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu conducted more than 3000 Corona tests in a day under the command of HoD Dr Shashi S Sudhan. On an average, the Department is conducting 2500 tests a day.
A total of 49 persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu district including 17 CRPF personnel, six hailing from Bantalab headquarters, four from 76th battalion and six from Training Centre Jammu.
Other positives of Jammu district include 29-year-old female from Trikuta Nagar, 40-year-old woman from Jagati, a youth each from Talab Tillo, Miran Sahib and Bahu Fort, three middle-aged men from Talli Morh, Kabir Basti and Chowadi, 24-year-old youth from Kunjwani, 34-year-old man from Gadigarh, 32-year-old from Bihar, 48-year-old from Akhnoor, 36-year-old from RS Pura and 32-year-old youth from Nanak Nagar.
Ten persons today reported positive for the virus in Udhampur district, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla told the Excelsior.
Four of the positives were CRPF personnel including three who were on duty at quarantine centre of the paramilitary force at Battal Ballian where they might have come in contact with positive persons.
Four police personnel (one traveler and three contacts), one Army soldier and a traveler from Shiv Nagar also tested positive in Udhampur district, Dr Singla said.
Three police constables, two Army soldiers and two BSF jawans were among 12 persons who reported positive for COVID-19 in Samba district, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said.
Five other positives of Samba district belonged to Gho Rakwala Ramgarh, Bara Dangore Vijaypur, Jakh, Nandpura Ramgarh and Samba, Pathak said.
Twelve CISF personnel were among 17 persons who reported Corona positive in Kathua district today.
Others who tested positive in Kathua include three members of a family, one of them a 75-year-old woman, from Shiva Nagar in Ward No. 19 and two with travel history from outside the Union Territory who were under administrative quarantine.
In Rajouri district, 12 fresh cases of Coronavirus were reported today, SSP Chandan Kohli said, adding that three of them were shopkeepers from Solki who were tested during random sampling besides an IRP 2nd battalion jawan from Nowshera and SPO from Nonail, who was contact of positive person.
Four persons reported positive from Red Zones of Sunderbani and one each from Shahdara Sharief, Langar and 20-year-old boy from Rajouri with travel history of Srinagar.
Eight persons today tested positive in Poonch district.
They include a 35-year-old doctor of Anantnag posted at Duty Health Centre Hari Budha in Surankote, a 28-year-old female official of Health Department deployed at Sub Centre Khaytan Draba and 52-year-old Education Department employee posted at Phagala, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
Other positives of Poonch district include a Bihari worker, a 29-year-old woman from Bunikath presently putting up at Manhas Mohalla Surankote, a 23-year-old youth from Mishriwalla who had come to Surankote, 13-year-old child from Gunthal and six-year-old female baby from Behram Gala, Angral said.
In Ramban district, eight persons have tested Corona positive. They include two employees of private companies working for the Railways, four persons from Khari and one each from Chamalwas and Magerkoot, who were subjected to testing during random sampling. One person reported positive from a Red Zone, CMO Ramban Dr Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
In Reasi district, six persons today tested positive for the virus including three youth from Chassana who had travel history of Rajouri and were under administrative quarantine. Three other positives were a police constable from Ward No. 1 Nai Basti Reasi, a youth from Mahore who had returned from Kashmir and was under quarantine and an 18-year-old boy from Patiala district of Punjab who was under administrative quarantine at a hotel in Katra.
Six persons, five of whom contacts of Corona patient from Ghat, Thathri and Bhaderwah today reported positive for Coronavirus in Doda district. A traveler also tested positive.
Five persons including two travelers and three contacts of Corona patients tested positive ion Kishtwar district.
Today’s positives have taken Jammu region’s Corona tally to 4218. Of them, 1957 were active cases while 2236 patients have recovered and were discharged from various COVID hospitals. There have been 25 Corona casualties in the region.
Seventy patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region including 37 from Rajouri district, 13 in Jammu, seven in Doda, six Kathua, three Kishtwar, two Reasi and one each in Poonch and Udhampur.
Meanwhile, 20 more Corona positive cases were today reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh taking total number of cases to 1347—565 in Leh and 782 in Kargil and active cases to 261—201 in Leh and 60 in Kargil.
As many as 1080 Corona patients have recovered in Ladakh—361 in Leh and 719 in Kargil while there have been six casualties.
Of total positives in Ladakh, 31 were admitted in COVID hospitals, 77 were in home isolation, 28 in COVID Care Centres and 122 in Facility Isolation.
