JAMMU, Feb 16: Two persons were found dead in Bathari village of the Billawar area in Kathua district today.
Shamsher (37), son of Krishan Chand, and Roshan (45), son of Shankar Dass, both residents of Kohag area of Billawar, left their homes yesterday to collect some forest produce, a police official said.

After their failure to return, the deceased’s family members initiated a search as they were not carrying mobile phones with them, he said.
The police official said that around 10:30 AM, some passersby noticed two persons lying under mysterious circumstances in Bathari Village-about 2 kilometers away from Kohag-with agricultural tools like a spade, hoe and mattock beside them, and informed the police.
Accordingly, a police party reached the spot and shifted the duo to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The police official said that there were strangulation marks on their bodies.
As such, a murder case, FIR number 21/2025, under Section 103 of the BNS, has been registered at Police Station Billawar, and further investigation has been taken up, he said.
The police didn’t rule out the possibility of a terror angle in the duo’s deaths.
