Two militants killed, CRPF man succumbs

Srinagar, Dec 24: Two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants including a 22-year-old footballer from Sopore area were killed in a gun battle at Wanigam Payeen village of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that acting on a tip off about presence of militants, police, Army’s 29 RR and the 176Bn CRPF cordoned Wanigam Payeen village this morning.

He said that during the searches, a spot was zeroed on where militants were hiding. When security forces reached close to the spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering an encounter.
However, the hiding militants tried to change location and there was a lull for a few hours after which a contact was again established. “In the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed,” he said.
One of the slain militant was identified as Abrar alias Langoo, a JeM militant and a Pakistani national. The second slain militant was identified as Amir Siraj from Adipora, Sopore.
Amir was missing since June 24 this year. He disappeared after leaving his maternal uncle’s house at Adipora, Sopore, to play football.
Amir, 22, had switched of his mobile phone and couldn’t be contacted by any of his family members.
The militants were hiding in the house of one Mehraj-ud-Din Wani and that they were given opportunity to surrender but they didn’t.
Police recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records by police for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes.
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man, who was injured in grenade blast yesterday, succumbed to his injuries at SK institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura today.
Four persons were found in “highly suspicious” circumstances and during the questioning, they admitted to having concealed the arms and ammunition under the heap of grass.
“During search of the area arms, ammunition/ explosive including one AK 56 rifle, one AK 56 magazine, 28 rounds of AK 56 rounds and one hand grenade were recovered,” police said.
They have been identified as Yawar Aziz Dar son of Abdul Aziz Dar, Sajad Ahmad Parray son of Abdul Rehman Parray-both residents of Larmoh, Abid Majeed Sheikh son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh and Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Gulzar Ahmad Dar-both residents of Dadsara.
A case (FIR number 195/2020) under relevant Sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora. The investigation of the case is going on and more arrests and recovery are expected in the case.
The CRPF man identified as constable Mritunjoy Chutia, 24, of 115 battalion of CRPF G Coy succumbed to the injuries. He along with three CRPF men were injured in the grenade blast in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district yesterday.
Militants this evening hurled a grenade towards CRPF men at Braripora area of Srinagar City. However, no loss of life or injury was reported, officials said.
A Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) man was injured in a grenade explosion in Malpora, Watergam area of Rafiabad North Kashmir Baramulla district this evening.
The grenade was hurled at the SSB vehicle in Watergam area resulting in injuries to SSB personnel. He has been identified as CT Rakesh.
Police today busted a militant module by arresting four militant associates of Al-Bader outfit and recovering arms and ammunition in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Police said that based upon the specific information about the presence of militants of Al-Badar in village Dadsara and Larmoh villages of Awantipora, Police with the assistance of 42RR of Army and 130 Bn CRPF launched search operation in Dadsara during the intervening night of 23-24 December.
