Two men arrested for raping, stalking women

Srinagar, Dec 18: Police have arrested a man in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district for raping a woman by pretending to be an army officer. Another man has been arrested for stalking a woman.
Police arrested Manzoor Ahmad Sofi alias Captain Kanwal of Mehand Srigaufara in Anantnag after a woman complained that three months ago Sofi had promised to marry her and later raped her.
Superintendent of Police Awantipora Range Tahir Saleem told Excelsior that during investigation police found that Sofi who had lied to the women saying he was an Army Major and was unmarried.
“But Sofi is a cheat and had been luring the women for sex,” Saleem said, adding he has been sent to Central Jail in Srinagar after registering an FIR number 159/2014 under Section 420, 376, 506 of  RPC against him.
The SP said medical reports also confirmed that the accused had sexually abused the woman.
In another incident, Saleem said, a 36-year-old man from Wuyen in Pampore in the same district was arrested for stalking a 21-year old woman.
Saleem said that Arshed Ahmad Jo,o son of Ghulam Hassan of Wuyen had been repeatedly stalking the women and would pass lewd remarks on her.
The woman complained to the police which after filing an FIR number 166/2014 under Section 294 RPC arrested the accused.
