Two JeM militants arrested

Srinagar, Sept 10: Security forces today arrested two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district who had come to recruit youth into militancy and transport weapons for militancy related activities while huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from Uri sector of Baramulla today.
Police said that two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants arrested in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district had come to recruit more youth into militancy and transport weapons for militancy related activities.
Addressing a joint press conference, Senior Superintendent of police (SSP), Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar said that the duo were apprehended along with arms and ammunition and had come to recruit more youth into militancy and transport weapons for militants from Kupwara.
He said that Kupwara police learnt that two Jaish militants are moving from Sopore to Kupwara along with arms and ammunition. “Acting on the inputs, Nakas were established at different places to nab them and near FCI both the militants were arrested along with arms and ammunition”, he said.
Flanked by top Army and police officials, the SSP said that the duo were on way to Kupwara to conduct militancy related activities and recruit new youth into their ranks and also to collect the arms and ammunition for the new militants.
“We have recovered Indian currency of Rs 7 lakhs from the possession of arrested Jaish militants along with one AK-47 rifle, one AK magazine, two grenades and 30 AK rounds along with an EON car bearing registration number JK05G-0872,” the SSP said.
He added that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arms and ammunition recovered from duo was for the new militants within Kupwara.
He identified the arrested militants as Waseem Irshad Gabroo, 23, son of Irshad Ahmed Gabroo, a resident of Takiyabal, Armapora, Sopore, and Mehrajudin, 21, son of Ghulam Din Wani, a resident of Badshah Basjid, Sopore.
In this regard, he said a case (FIR No. 233 under Section Indian Arms Act under Section 13,18,19,39 IAPA) has been registered at police station Kupwara and further investigation initiated.
And security forces today recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a cordon and search operation in Duljana area along Line of Control (LoC) Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A joint team of Army’s 8RR Unit and Jammu and Kashmir police launched a cordon and search operation in Dulanja forest after receiving credible inputs about the presence of arms and ammunition in the area.
During search operation, huge quantity of arms and ammunition including two MI 16 rifles and pistols were recovered.
“On September 9, a credible input was received from Jammu Kashmir Police regarding presence of a cache of small arms in general Area Dulanja. A specific search was launched in general area Dulanja Infantry Safe Line (ISL) by a team which continued throughout the day. The searches culminated in the recovery of war-like stores in general area cutting on September 10,” he said.
The arms and ammunition recovered during the searches include two M-16 rifles, two pistols, four magazines (M-16 rifle), and four magazines (pistols).
In the meantime, security forces detected and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) at Chatloora, Rafiabad in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
A Joint Road Opening Party (ROP) of 32 RR of Army and BSF detected the IED that was wrapped in a bag near the passenger shed at Chatlora, Rafiabad highway this morning.
The mine detectors and sniffer dogs confirmed that the bag contained the explosive, before the bomb disposal squad was called to destroy it. The movement of all vehicles along the highway was stopped immediately.
“Relentless domination of the area and high alertness level of the security forces prevented any untoward incident along the National Highway,” an official said.
