Two die of Corona in Jammu, 7 women among 20 from Karan Bagh +ve

JAMMU, July 24: Twenty persons from one locality of Karan Bagh near Gadigarh area of Jammu district, seven of them women, 26 CISF personnel from Kathua, five CRPF jawans in Ramban, a female Manager of JKDFC Udyog Bhawan, AAO of JKPCC Bahu Plaza and a shopkeeper from Nanak Nagar without any travel history, were among 128 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu region today while an Indian Reserve Police (IRP) ASI and a middle-aged man from Karan Bagh died of Corona in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu taking tally of casualties in the region to 22 even as 35 patients recovered from the virus and were discharged from various COVID hospitals.
Jammu district reported 45 new COVID positive cases today, 20 of them alone from Karan Bagh and Gadigarh where a woman had died of Corona earlier and four persons had reported positive for the virus. All persons including 19 in Karan Bagh and one in Gadigarh tested positive today were locals with no travel history and had come in contact with positive persons for which they were sampled.

Of 20 positives, seven were women.
All of them have been shifted to different COVID hospitals in Jammu. Barring four, all others were asymptomatic, doctors said.
A 58-year-old ASI of IRP who hailed from Greater Kailash and was admitted in the GMC Jammu for Corona symptoms on July 18 died at 8.30 am today. He had tested positive for the virus on July 21.
GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said the man was suffering from Type 2 diabetes mellitus with COVID. His body was packed as per protocol.
The body was cremated at Shastri Nagar cremation ground with limited family members allowed to attend the last rites, SHO Gangyal Raghubir Singh said.
Apart from 20 persons from Karan Bagh and Gadigarh, 10 security personnel also tested positive in Jammu district.
A 44-year-old man from Karan Bagh who was admitted in the GMC Jammu at 2 am after being detected positive for COVID-19 died at 6.30 pm today. He was suffering from high fever and haemophysis with respiratory distress.
The man had come in contact with a positive shopkeeper of Karan Bagh and also had travel history of Poonch.
Dr Singh said his body has been packed and kept in the mortuary. It will be sent for cremation tomorrow morning as per the protocol.
With two deaths today, Jammu region’s Corona casualties have gone up to 22. Jammu district has highest 14 casualties followed by two each in Rajouri and Doda districts and one each in Kathua, Udhampur, Samba and Poonch.
Other positives of Jammu include, a police Inspector posted in Security Wing Jammu hailing from Sangla Surankote who had travel history of Kashmir, 11-year-old boy from Colonel Colony Talab Tillo, 40-year-old shopkeeper of Nanak Nagar who is a resident of Trikuta Nagar, 37-year-old Manager of Jammu and Kashmir Development Finance Corporation (JKDFC) Udyog Bhawan Bahu Plaza who hailed from Gandhi Nagar, 45-year-old AAO of JKPCC Bahu Plaza, also a resident of Nanak Nagar, 31-year-old man from Sainik Colony, a staffer of leading car showroom at National Highway Bypass, 22-year-old from Bihar putting up at Akhnoor, 32-year-old from Channi Rama, middle-aged man from Durga Nagar, 55-year-old from Gandhi Nagar, a youth from Belicharana and teenager from Shastri Nagar.
The Nanak Nagar shopkeeper, JKDFC Manager and JKPCC AAO had no travel history, doctors said.
Meanwhile, weekend lockdown began this evening in Jammu and Udhampur districts while the district administration of Rajouri also announced weekend lockdown from today.
All shops and business establishments were shut before 6 pm in entire City and outskirts in Jammu and Udhampur districts. However, it led to traffic jam on many roads as people started rushing to their houses after closing their shops, offices etc.
Traffic went off the road around 7.30 pm but skeletal private vehicles continued to operate.
The lockdown in the two districts will remain in force till 6 am Monday and was enforced due to surge in Corona cases and to check rush of people at tourist places and other spots during weekends. Essential services have been exempted from purview of lockdown in both the districts.
District Magistrate Rajouri Mohammad Nazir Sheikh has also announced weekend lockdown in entire district from 8 pm Friday to 6 am Monday every week. Essential services, however, will function.
Deputy Commissioner Samba Rohit Khajuria today extended lockdown in Vijaypur tehsil till July 27 which was imposed in view of spike in Corona cases. He has also banned entry of outsiders at religious places of Purmandal and Utterbehni after some Corona cases were reported from there.
Twenty nine persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in Kathua district.
Of them, 26 were CISF personnel, one each jawan of Army and CRPF and a local from Pajwal, Kathua with travel history of New Delhi.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said all 29 positive persons were under administrative quarantine.
Meanwhile, 2815 persons today crossed Lakhanpur to enter Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
Twenty five persons were tested positive for the virus in Ramban district.
Of them, five were CRPF personnel deployed at their Chanderkote battalion and six from Red Zones including four from Chamalwas and two from Tethar.
Other positives of Ramban district hailed from Rajgarh, Gool, Neel, Trava and Banihal, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
Seventeen persons reported Corona positive in Rajouri district, SSP Chandan Kohli said, adding that two of them were IRP and one NDRF personnel.
Twelve other positives of Rajouri district hailed from Red Zones of Panjpeer, Khandli, Jawahar Nagar, Budhal, Lamberi, Sunderbani and Siot. Other persons who tested positive were contacts of Corona patients.
Again all 17 Corona cases reported today in Rajouri district were locals having no travel history.
Three persons have reported positive for the virus in Udhampur district.
They include 60-year-old woman from Satteni, who was contact of a positive person, an elderly man from Udhampur with travel history of Srinagar and a youth from Uttar Pradesh who works in a shop at Sailan Talab.
Four Armed Police personnel, all of whom were under administrative quarantine, today tested positive for the virus in Kishtwar district.
Two persons including a BSF head constable with travel history of Pune and a driver from Chhatisgarh reported Corona positive in Poonch district.
A 26-year-old woman from Bari Brahmana in Samba district who was under quarantine at a hotel in Katra after arrival from Bihar tested positive in Reasi district.
Doda was the lone district which didn’t report any Corona cases today.
As per the official figures, Jammu region now has 3480 Corona cases and 1533 active cases. As many as 1926 Corona patients have been treated for the virus and discharged from the hospitals.
Thirty five patients were today discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region including nine in Doda district, eight in Kathua, five each in Jammu, Samba and Kishtwar districts, two Rajouri and one in Samba.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 36 new Corona cases including 26 in Leh and 10 in Kargil district taking total number of cases to 1246—496 in Leh and 750 in Kargil and active cases to 209—175 in Leh and 34 in Kargil.
As many as 1035 patients have been treated and discharged in Ladakh—320 in Leh and 715 in Kargil while there have been two Corona casualties.
Of total positives, 34 were admitted in COVID hospitals, 53 were in home isolation, 11 in COVID Care Centre and 110 in Facility Isolation.
