Two-day workshop on child labour concludes

JAMMU, Mar 8: Two-day workshop on child labour with special focus on Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and regulation) Act, 2016, concluded today here at Conference Hall, TRC Residency Road.
The workshop was organized by Department of Labour Jammu in collaboration with National Development Foundation & UNICEF with technical support from VV Giri National Labour Institute, Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The workshop was inaugurated yesterday by Dr SD Singh Jamwal, IG Police, Jammu zone. Deputy Labour Commissioner, Jammu, Ankur Mahajan presented welcome address while the programme was conducted by Manmeet Bali.
Dr Helen R Sekar and Dr Kingshuk Sarkar from VVGNLI, Hilal Bhat from UNICEF and Rajiv Khajuria, founder, Emeritus National Development Foundation, Jammu also spoke in the inaugural session.
During the two-day workshop, various sessions were taken by Dr Sekar and Dr Sarkar on overview of Child Labour in J&K, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act along with amendments and measures for effective enforcement.
Participants from various departments including Labour Deprtment, Social Welfare Department, Police Department, NGOs and civil society attended the workshop and discussed in detail the issue of implementation of CLPRA, reasons of child labour.
They also shared recommendations for minimizing existence of child labour in the State. Apart from this, resource persons also shared the formats and processes for preparation of Divisional/ District Specific Action plans on child labour.
The vote of thanks were presented by Sonam Gupta, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Central. The workshop ended with a pledge to eradicate the menace of child labour from the State and country.
