Two cornea transplant procedures performed in GMC Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 19: The upgraded Department of Ophthalmology, GMC Jammu under the supervision of Dr Ashutosh Gupta (Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu) and Dr Elias Sharma (Nodal Officer, SOTTO, J&K) witnessed another blissful moment by conducting two corneal transplantations and making it possible for two persons to regain vision.
Dr Ashok Sharma (Professor and Head, Ophthalmology) with his immense hard work and wisdom helped two visually disabled persons to have the gift of vision. One of the recipients was 70-year-old female with diminution of vision from past 10 years and the other was a 26-year-old male with diminution form past 6 years.
The eyes donated by the deceased in Jammu district were retrieved timely by the Eye Bank team led by Dr Palak Gupta (Registrar), Dr Nancy Sharma (Registrar), Ajay Sharma (Staff nurse) and Akarshan Jamwal (MTS) and were transported, stored and then transplanted under the guidance of Dr Hans Raj Sharma (Professor).
The operating team showered their patience with the procedure done by Dr Ashok Sharma (Professor & Head) assisted by Dr Neharika Verma (PG), Dr Kritika (PG) and Kamlesh Kumari (Senior staff nurse) and Harpreet Kaur (Senior staff nurse).
