SRINAGAR : In what could be seen as a major breakthrough in Srinagar acid attack case, police today claimed to have arrested two accused involved in the incident. Official sources said the two accused, including a businessman, were today arrested for allegedly throwing acid on a law graduate student at Nowshera area in the city outskirts on December 11.
Even though the number plate of the vehicle, which was used to flee the spot, was deliberately covered to avoid identification, ‘MANSA’ inscribed on its rear windscreen emerged as a vital lead for police, sources said.
The acid attack evoked massive condemnation from mainstream, separatist, religious and social organisations. The divisional authorities directed all Deputy Commissioners to impose ban on sale of acid in their respective areas. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old acid attack victim, who was shifted to Chennai for specialised treatment of her burn injuries, underwent another surgery on December 23. The girl has been operated upon twice so far, sources said, adding a portion of her face and one of the eyes were badly damaged in the attack.
Shock and anger followed by protests gripped Kashmir after two persons who were travelling in a car intercepted the girl outside the Law College in Nowshera of Srinagar and threw acid at her. (AGENCIES)
