TV artists hold protest against guidelines of Prasar Bharti

JAMMU, July 26: The performing artists of Jammu region came out on roads against discriminatory attitude of Prasar Bharti Corporation of India towards the fraternity members.

The artists assembled at Abhinav Theatre and proceeded towards Press Club of Jammu with placards in their hands showing resentment against Prasar Bharti and Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry. They were furious about the controversial guidelines framed by Prasar Bharti for DD Kashir Chanel of Doordarshan.
The artists said the Kashir Channel was launched a few years ago with the sole motive of promote and project the rich cultural heritage of entire Jammu and Kashmir State. Another laudable aim of the channel was to provide a platform for the regional talent of all the three regions to showcase their talent on this channel. However recent guidelines issued by Prasar Bharti for commissioning of programs in the month of June 2017 followed by guidelines issued for acquisition of programmes in this month of July were totally biased and framed with anti-artists attitude. The guidelines have been framed to sideline regional talent tactfully.
They said at a time when the sustenance of about 10,000 artists is directly or indirectly connected with television productions and when various economic packages were being extended to Jammu and Kashmir State, the people whose sustenance has been threatened and they have virtually reached the stage of starvation, the budget for Jammu Doordarshan Kandra, which stand abruptly stopped from 2014 should immediately be released forthwith as there was need for meaningful programming from Doordarshan in this region.
