ANKARA, May 17 : Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will state the importance of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine for achieving a just and sustainable resolution to the conflict during his visit to Germany on May 18, a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry told Sputnik on Sunday.
Fidan will pay an official visit to Germany on May 18 for the third meeting of the Turkey-Germany Strategic Dialogue Mechanism, the source said.
“Turkey will continue to make efforts in coordination with all interested parties to restore dialogue between Ukraine and Russia,” the source said, commenting on Fidan’s upcoming visit to Berlin.
Fidan intends to state during talks with the German side that direct contacts between Moscow and Kiev are key to ending the conflict on the basis of a fair and long-term solution, the source added.
The source also said that the third meeting of the mechanism will also cover regional security issues, the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, Turkey-EU relations, and cooperation in defense and the economy.
Fidan will also emphasize the importance of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and reaffirm Ankara’s support for efforts to finally end the conflict between the US and Iran, the source added.
The Turkish foreign minister also intends to state that Israel’s policies remain one of the main causes of instability in the Middle East, and that the international community must play a more active role in ensuring peace and stability in the region. (UNI)
