SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Authorities today threw open Tulip garden, Srinagar, to the visitors without any bloom and hundreds of tourists who visited the garden showed their displeasure.
The garden was thrown open for public by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Shalendra Kumar who was accompanied by some top administrative officials. Much to the annoyance of tourists, there was hardly any bloom.
While the authorities held the inclement weather responsible for delay of the bloom, the visitors accused the authorities for throwing the garden open without bloom. Last year the garden was thrown open to public on March 27.
Nazir Ahmad Reshi, Incharge Tulip garden said: “The bloom was delayed this season due to untimely snowfall and rains up to the end of March and cloudy and cool weather even in April.
Dr Z A Qadri, faculty member of Floriculture Department, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) says that the tulip bloom would not be more than 12-14 days this season due to un-favourable weather.
The authorities are hopeful that the bloom would remain for three weeks. “Nature is not so harsh, we should expect more than 21-days of bloom this season,” Reshi said.
