Tuition Ban

I
Sir,
Apropos news item ‘Vigilance raids six private coaching institutions.. ‘DE 19.11.2015. Imposing ban at a time when students especially class XII, were preparing for exams is not in the interest of student community of the State. Such bans have been imposed in the past as well. But what was the result ? In panic a number of tuition institutions have been closed all of a sudden. These institutions have not to loose too much but it is the student and their parents who are cheated and embarrassed. The Government is depriving students of the basic rights of seeking education from the institution or teacher of choice. Alternate arrangements should have been in place before imposing ban.
Condition and standard of education in Government schools, colleges and institutions in known to the entire society. Instead of improving the same the Government is deliberately closing the doors of better facilities available to the students in market. In a civilized and respectable society, nations in the world strive for better avenues in every sphere particularly the education to improve living standard in order to make future of its forth coming generation safe and bright but our Government is striking at the very basic root of the society building process.
It is beyond one’s imagination why single out education institutions only, if the Government is really worried about the common man, it should ban the private practice of Doctors where it has failed miserably. The result being that branches of almost  all leading and high profile private  Hospitals in country have cropped up in Jammu city looting the common man day and night. Check parking lots where charges are at the will of boys and double at Railways station and Airport. Check over charging and overloading in matadors. Corruption in Police and Government offices where employees are reported absent from duty.. above all get us rid of unending traffic jams.
I appeal the Education Minister for lifting the unwanted ban with immediate effect. My fervent appeal to Jammuites, respected citizens from civil society and student fraternity should take up the ban on teaching immediately with the concerned for its instant removal.
Yours etc…

The ban on private tuitions imposed by the State Government on the principals, lecturers, masters, teachers, ReTs is a step in the right direction and Minister of  Education needs appreciation for taking good decisions  for revamping Education Department. Ban on tuition will definitely improve education in Govt. Schools as those who are involved in this business have hardly any time to devote in schools. There had been complaints that students of Government schools are harassed by the teachers for private tuitions as a result of which many students have to give their hard earned money to the unscrupulous teachers. It may sound surprising but it is a fact that in most of the cases of tuition, the same teacher teaches the students in the class and provides them coaching at home or at coaching centers. The craze for private tuition has led to the mushrooming of coaching/ tuition centres in towns and cities merely as business establishments.  Even the renowned coaching centers have opened their branches/ franchise in Jammu and doing brisk business. Not only the rich, but also the poor parents pool their resources to admit their wards to these coaching centre. The students join such centers in large number to get good marks in the academic examinations and to prepare for various entrance exams for admission to professional and academic course. This menace of tuitions has resulted in students being totally dependent on cheap readymade notes for study. The habit of self reading has vanished and the students don’t have command and grip over different subjects.
Moreover, they don’t attend schools under the notion that they can make up their deficiency in tuition centres.Little do they realize that knowledge gained at school through classroom teaching and practical work is of utmost importance. Thus, despite scoring high percentage in the academic examinations, very few students crack top entrance examinations of top professional courses. The ban on private tuitions,if implemented in letter and spirit, will help the students to develop the habit of self study and thus acquire mastery over the subjects.
