JAMMU, July 13: A function to commemorate Comrade Dhanwantri was organized today by Comrade Dhanwantri Manch here at Janipur on his 65th death anniversary.
People from various walks of life participated and paid rich tributes to Comrade Dhanwantri, who fought for the independence of India against British imperialism. The function was presided over by JA Kazmi, Advocate.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Hari Chand Jalmeria (president of Comrade Dhanwantri Manch), threw light on the life and sacrifices of Comrade Dhanwantri who was born at Jammu in the year 1902. In Lahore, he joined India’s freedom struggle in the companionship of Shaheed-e-Aazm Bhagat Singh, Chander Shekhar Azad, Shiv Verma and others. In the Lahore conspiracy case, he was deported for life and lodged in Kala Pani jail, Port Blair.
In early forties, when Dhanwantri came to J&K, he organized writers, peasants, youth and students. He also guided movement for democracy in the State. He stood for building socialism in India throughout his life and made tremendous sacrifices.
Advocate BS Slathia and Advocate Prem Sadhotra, president and secretary of J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu paid tributes to Comrade Dhanwantri on behalf of the lawyer community.
Uday Chand (president of Duggar Pradesh Party), Pritam Gupta, Girdhari Lal Chanda (Trade Union leader), Harbans Lal and Romesh Chander also spoke on the occasion.
It was resolved in the meeting to ask the Government to make memorial of comrade Dhanwantri in Jammu.
