JAMMU, Mar 25: Mahajan Sabha, Channi Himmat, Jammu paid rich tributes to the leaders of masses and social reformers Sher-e-Duggar late Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan, who was the first Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
The tributes were paid to the late leaders during a programme titled “Samarpan” (general body meeting and parivar milan) organized at Gurjar Charitable Trust, Jammu.
The programme was inaugurated by chief guest, Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, along with guests of honour, Rajesh Gupta (MLA Jammu East), Naresh Gupta (MLC), Ved Mahajan (Ex MLC), Rakesh Gupta (president, Chamber of Commerce and Industries), Romesh Chander Gupta (president, Central Mahajan Sabha) and Ashok Jandial (president, Mahajan Sabha, Channi Himmat).
While speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta said that both Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan sacrificed their lives not only for their own community but also for the upliftment of down trodden people of other communities. He appreciated Mahajan Sabha, Channi Himmat for doing exceptional work for the poor people belonging to the community and assured that he will provide every possible help to the Sabha for its effective functioning.
Earlier in his welcome address, Ashok Jandial highlighted the various activities of the Sabha during his tenure. He said that a telephone directory with the details of each and every Mahajan family residing in Channi Himmat and adjoining areas was published and distributed free of cost, to bring the community together. “For the first time, women too have been incorporated in the Working Committee of Mahajan Sabha Channi Himmat to highlight the problems of the helpless as well as the needy”, he added.
Students of JK Montessori Senior Secondary School presented various cultural programs during the Parivar Milan. Children of various age groups from Mahajan community spoke on different topics related to social evils and contemporary issues. In the end of the programme, Mahajan youth and children who excelled in various fields, were honored by the Sabha.
