UDHAMPUR, Oct 25: An under trial accused, lodged in District Jail, Udhampur died under mysterious circumstances in his cell in the jail here last night.
Police sources said that under trial, Bal Krishan (43), son of Ram Chand, resident of Majalta in district Udhampur, was lodged in the Jail for the last about one month. He was found unconscious inside his cell in the morning and was immediately shifted to District Hospital, Udhampur by Jail staff. He was declared as brought dead in the Hospital.
While the Jail officials maintained silence over the issue, SSP Udhampur Raees Ahmed Bhat said that Bal Krishan from Majalta was lodged in the Jail hardly three weeks ago under NDPS Act. The cause of death is being ascertained. He said police has started investigation under section 174 CrPC.
