The rally commenced from Top Sherkhania and passed through several main bazaars and localities before culminating near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at the Tawi Bridge. The atmosphere remained charged with slogans such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Nashe Ko Bhagao, Jeevan Bachao,” highlighting the urgency of addressing the issue. Hundreds of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel on bikes also joined the rally, lending significant support to the initiative.
Addressing participants, Jamwal called for stringent action against drug peddlers, demanding that those involved in narcotics trade be treated as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) aiding Pakistan-sponsored narco-terrorism. He expressed serious concern over reports suggesting that drug networks are being operated from within prisons using mobile phones, raising questions about jail administration.
He also highlighted the increasing use of drones for smuggling narcotics across the Indo-Pak border, stressing the need to dismantle this cross-border supply chain. According to him, unless these routes are effectively sealed, local efforts to eliminate drug abuse will remain incomplete.
Describing drug abuse as a grave social evil, Jamwal said it is destroying families, weakening the social fabric, and pushing youth toward crime and despair. He urged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s activities while encouraging youth to stay away from drugs and engage in constructive pursuits.
He further emphasized the need for awareness campaigns, strengthening de-addiction centres, and ensuring proper counselling and rehabilitation for affected individuals. Additionally, he called on the administration to improve sports infrastructure and demanded accountability within law enforcement agencies to curb drug-related activities effectively.
