Vijaypur, Dec 13: Demanding rights at par with the 1947 refugees, senior Congress leader and former Minister Manjit Singh today expressed concern over the delaying tactics of the State Government for granting ‘property rights’ to the refugees of 1965 to 1971.
“The Government of India (GoI) is ready to give rights to the 1965 and 1971 refugees but the Jammu and Kashmir has not shown interest on the issue, while they (the Government) have also not been giving details of the refugees to the Central Government,” Manjit Singh said here in a public meeting at Vijaypur. Singh said that the Government should not force the refugees of 1965 and 1971 to come on roads against the delaying tactics of the Government and appealed that the State Government should grant property rights to them at par with the refugees of 1947. “It is upto the State Government to take a decision but they have been delaying and the GoI for the one time settlement of the refugees,” he said.
Meanwhile, he also appealed the Government to appoint PRO for the refugees of 1965 and 1971 so that their problems can be redressed. The Government should make the appointment of PRO for the refugees so that he can listen, their problems and then redress them accordingly, besides projecting the sufferings of the refugees before the Government,” Singh said. He said that the Government already made the appointment of PRO for 1947 refugees and same should be done in case of 1965 and 1971 refugees. “An Additional Commissioner or Assistance Commissioner Revenue (ACR) level officers should be appointed for the post in the Divisional Commissioner’s office,” he demanded.
