JAMMU, Nov 2:  In protest against no action on their demands, All J&K Transport Welfare Association, J&K Jammu, has announced to go on strike on November 6.
“All the transporters of J&K State have unanimously decided to observe one-day token strike on November 6 and if our demands are not met by the State Government, we will go on indefinite strike later on and no commercial vehicles will be on roads from Lakhanpur to Srinagar,” said T S Wazir, chairman of All J&K Transport Welfare Association, J&K Jammu, while talking to media persons, here today.
Reiterating the demands, which include; withdrawal of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur, exemption from payment of tax by transporters of Jammu, whose vehicles remained off the road during year long unrest in Kashmir valley, abolition of Adda fee, withdrawal of Speed Governor, amnesty scheme in passenger tax, withdrawal of increased fees, taxes and penalties imposed by Central Government etc, he also drew attention towards the problems being faced by the transporters in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Non-issuance of manual route permit, shifting of fitness ground for trucks from Transport Nagar to Sidhra Bye-Pass, mess in the office of Transport Commissioner as well in the RTO office, introduction of OLA Cab in J&K and proposed Government move to reduce passenger fare are not in interest of the general transporters,” Wazir added and alleged that there was no positive response from the Government side over all these issues.
“Despite Chief Minister’s assurance during a meeting with the transporters at Civil Secretariat on January 25, 2017 that all our demands were genuine and would be settled within days, no such orders were issued till now,” he said while justifying the reason to call for strike on November 6.
Wazir appealed general public and other organizations, including Chamber of Commerce, Bar Association, Retailers Federation, Industry Association etc to support the genuine demands of the transporters and strike on November 6.
Representatives of all commercial vehicles associations including buses, trucks, tankers, minibuses, taxies and auto- rickshaws were present in the press conference.
