Transport Deptt orders crackdown on illegal aggregator services including RAPIDO in J&K

JAMMU, May 11: The Transport Department of the Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered a crackdown on unauthorised aggregator services, including RAPIDO, operating in the region without valid licence or permission from the competent authority.
Taking serious note of the issue, the Transport Commissioner, J&K has directed all Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs), Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) and other enforcement agencies to launch special drives against such operators across the Union Territory.
According to a circular issued by the Regional Transport Officer and Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Jammu, operation of aggregator services without licence is a violation of Section 93 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2020 and instructions issued by the Government from time to time.
He warned that use of private or non-transport vehicles for carrying passengers on hire without valid permit attracts action under Sections 66 and 192A of the Act.
The RTO Jammu said strict action would be taken against violators, including seizure of vehicles and recommendation for suspension or cancellation of Registration Certificates and Driving Licences wherever required.
He also advised the commuters not to use unauthorised aggregator services, including RAPIDO services being operated without permission, stating that such operations are illegal and may compromise passenger safety and accountability.
