Transformer workshop at Udhampur

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Transformer workshop at Udhampur being upgraded’ DE April 8. The long pending demand of the Udhampur public is likely to be fulfilled soon by upgradation of the Divisional Workshop Udhampur to the Regional level at a cost of Rs 117.99 lacs as has been announced by the Deputy Chief Minister,  who also holds the portfolio of power.
This step will certainly help in improving the electricity supply in the area. It may be mentioned here that this area experiences dark spells from a long time.
Some remedial measures are suggested to save the transformer losses.
* Constitute consumer welfare committees in villages by involving the PRIs  to save power by using energy savers CFC/LED to bring down the unwanted load.
* Gear up field functionaries to pay surprise visits to check unauthorized load and reward honest officers/officials who show their outstanding performance in revenue realization and maximum use of energy in their respective areas.
* Install e-meters in the rural areas in a phased manner to save electricity and to escape from unscheduled power cuts.
Yours etc…
