JAMMU, July 30: One day training cum interaction programme on Litchi cultivation was organized today in Horticulture Complex, Jammu in technical collaboration with National Research Centre for Litchi (NRCL), Muzzaffarpur (Bihar).
The training programme was presided over by Director, Horticulture Jammu, Anuradha Gupta. Eminent Scientist, Dr Vishal Nath, Director NRCL, gave a detailed account regarding the cultivation of Litchi crop with its origin, distribution and selection of climate specific crops in the subtropical area of the Jammu Division. He also focused on its various aspects and its value addition in the form of pulp and juices.
Dr Amrinder Kumar, senior Scientist of NRCL, discussed good agricultural practices which must be adopted in the cultivation of Litchi crop for quality production of fruit.
Anuradha Gupta, while speaking on the occasion, asked the field functionaries especially Horticulture Development Officers (HDOs) to take maximum benefit of the resource persons, equip themselves with the latest advancements in the cultivation of Litchi crop. She also instructed the officers to widely popularize the cultivation of litchi crop in subtropical areas of the Jammu Division especially in litchi adopted villages through various Developmental schemes.
The Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Kirtan Singh Raina, while speaking during the programme, assured the Director Horticulture that more area shall be brought under Litchi cultivation and Litchi Village programme adopted during the current season shall be implemented in letter and spirit.
Deputy Director, Central Jammu and Chief Horticulture Officers of Sub tropical districts of the State viz. Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Reasi along with Horticulture Development officers participated in the programme.
