Training programme for scientists, scholars begins at SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Nov 7: A week long national level training programme on `Basic Techniques in Molecular Biology’ for scientists and research scholars began at the School of Biotechnology, SKUAST-Jammu.
Scientists and scholars from different States of the country are participating in the training programme, which was inaugurated by Professor Ajay Koul, Director Research. In his inaugural address, Prof Koul emphasized the need for biotechnological methods in understanding the biological processes at molecular level.
Dr R K Salgotra, Coordinator School of Bio Technology highlighted the importance of such trainings for young researchers working in agriculture, animal sciences and allied fields.
The objective of the training programme is to equip the trainees with basic techniques in molecular biology and prepare them to handle the advanced research in the frontier areas of biotechnology to deal with the new challenges in the future.
Topics like application of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP), Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and microarray technology will be of special interest to the young researchers.
The inaugural session was graced by Deans, Faculties of Agriculture / Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Coordinators of Schools and Head of Divisions.
