SRINAGAR: Train service was resumed this morning in north Kashmir while it remained suspended for the third day today for security reasons in south valley.
On July 2, the service was suspended for security reasons after the separatists had called for a general strike in protest against the killing of two civilians and two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants on July 1 in Anantnag. Yesterday, the services remained suspended after an encounter ensued in Pulwama.
Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces since yesterday in Pulwama.
”We have resumed train service from Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir today,” a railway official said this morning.
However, train service was not resumed in south Kashmir valley for security reasons, he said.
Train services are being cancelled or resumed only on the directions from the authorities, he said.
Similarly, trains operating on Badgam-Srinagar and Anantnag and Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu remained suspended today also.
Train runs were suspended several times last month for security reasons on directions from the administration. (AGENCIES)
