Train accident averted

JAMMU, Oct 10: A major train accident was averted due to the extraordinary presence of mind and alertness of Station Master on duty at Bhangala Station in the Jammu division of Northern Railway.
According to the incident report, Station Master Vijay Kumar was on night duty on October 9-10, 2025 when around 3.25 AM he noticed smoke and sparks coming from the wheel of 15th coach of the engine of an empty NMG freight train passing through Bhangala Station.
Acting promptly, the Station Master signalled the train manager of the freight train with a red signal. Meanwhile, the freight train was stopped after crossing the advance signal at kilometer 81/2 between Bhangala and Mukerian. With the help of the gateman posted at LC Gate number 120, the carriage was checked. The technical problem was rectified and the spark was extinguished before the freight train was allowed to depart.
Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, commended the Station Master’s presence of mind and announced that he would be honoured.
