SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Security forces today averted a major tragedy by detecting and defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Dar Mohalla of Garoora area of Bandipora district of North Kashmir.
Police and Army’s 13 RR in a joint operation, detected an IED weighing 20 kgs at around 8 am in Garoora, Bandipora. The explosive was later defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and then destroyed.
The IED was sophisticated, in a welded iron container with a detonator and fuse. The Bomb Disposal Squad of the Army was immediately rushed to the spot and the IED was defused.
Security forces said that by this they averted major tragedy. “It could have caused huge damage had it not been detected timely by the security”, a police officer said.
