Traffic trouble

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Traffic blocked on NH,cops in slumber’ DE June 30.
The traffic jam incident as mentioned in the news item is not one of its own kind, but such incidents occur almost every day on the busy road. In winter, snow and rains cause landslides which block vehicular movement for days together. But in summer, the huge number of vehicles plying on this road is responsible for umpteen traffic snarls. The situation gets compounded when  traffic authorities remain sluggish and do not regulate traffic. To avoid such incidents in the future, it is necessary that the roads be maintained on daily basis. The norms of two way traffic be observed in letter and spirit. Those indulging in rash driving be punished according to law of the land. Since keeping vigil all along the road is not possible, it is therefore necessary to install hi-tech cameras along the  route to monitor  the movement.
The Traffic Department has to play an important role in keeping the vehicular movement quite smooth.
The situation may worsen further with the Amarnath yatra. Besides, Srinagar or Jammu bound passengers, the people particularly the employees working all along the route are sufferers.
Hope the Traffic authorities would not be found wanting on this front.
Yours etc…
Rakesh Rasgotra
