SRINAGAR: The Railway Ministry has agreed to allow vehicular traffic in Qazigund-Banihal railway tunnel during inclement weather and snowfalls on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
An official statement issued here this evening said that the Qazigund-Banihal railway tunnel would also be used for the vehicular traffic during inclement weather and snowfalls.
“This would ensure timely movement of passengers and vehicles who often get stuck on the national highway for days due to blockade during bad weathers,” it said.
It said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is in the national capital, today took up the issue of using the tunnel with Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu, who assured all support and cooperation. (AGENCIES)
