JAMMU, May 25: Thousands of vehicles remained stranded on Jammu -Srinagar National Highway for about 13 hours after road was blocked due to massive land slides in Ramban area during early morning today.
Official sources said that massive land slides took place near Battery Chashma area where some road widening work is going on for the past several weeks. It was raining yesterday in the area but at morning the weather was clear.

Suddenly, big boulders fell down on the highway followed by massive land slides at around 4 am at Battery Chashma, which has become cause of headache for the executing agencies and the State Administration. Over 150 meter area of the road was badly affected with the land slides.
SSP Traffic J S Johar and and DC Ramban, Showkat Aijaz paid visit to the spot and supervised restoration work. Later, during the day Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma and IGP MK Sinha also visited the site and talked to the HCC and NHAI officials.
A large number of passengers remained stranded through out the day on the highway. Hundreds of trucks and other light motor and medium vehicles in Jammu, Udhampur, Dhar Road, Chenani, Nashri, Ramban, Banihal, Lower Munda and Qazigund remained stranded up to 5 pm. Massive traffic jam was created on the highway for hours on the highway and people had to face tough time, the sources said.
