SRINAGAR: Traffic was resumed this morning on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended due to fresh landslides.
Meanwhile, the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir valley and historic Mughal road, are open for traffic with some restrictions.
Traffic on the highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was suspended late last night following fresh landslides at Ramsu, a traffic police official said.
However, he said, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides.
He said traffic was resumed on the highway at 0800 hrs this morning. Light vehicles were allowed to ply from both sides, he said, adding that heavy vehicle will continue to ply on alternate days.
Today, heavy vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu, he said, adding that no heavy vehicle, including Army, paramilitary and police vehicles will be allowed from opposite direction.
Vehicles stranded on the highway after the landslides have also been cleared, he said.
Traffic on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway was also plying normally. However, only one-way traffic is allowed on Zojila pass to avoid any accident and traffic jam.
In the morning traffic is ply from Kargil-Drass to Srinagar and in the afternoon vehicles are allowed from here to Leh on the highway.
Traffic is also plying on 86-km-long on Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir to Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region. (A
