JAMMU, Mar 22: Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored during last midnight while traffic restrictions continued due to some maintenance work in Ramban sector.
Official source said that traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored during last night but landslides at Hingni again blocked it. It was then cleared in the morning but during the day again, brief traffic disruptions were caused due to fresh landslides at Mehar and Cafeteria Morh in Ramban.
Sources said that taking advantage of the Janata curfew, the National Highway authorities today cleared the bottlenecks where single road was existing due to fresh landslides. They cleared most of the areas where traffic jamming in Ramban sector was taking place for the last few weeks. These areas included, Mehar, Kela Morh, Battery Chashma, Khooni Nallah, Mom Passi, Panthyal, Hingni, Cafeteria Morh etc.
SSP Traffic National Highway, J S Johar said they had taken time for carrying maintenance today. Moreover, due to ‘Janata Curfew’ the movement of the vehicles had been stalled. Many bottlenecks on the highway, especially in Ramban sector were cleared today. Many narrow patches were widened. It was routine exercise as they do take time from the administration for the maintenance of the highway. He said most of the stranded LMVs have been cleared and now Jammu bound stranded HMVs are being cleared from Kashmir side.
Project Director, National Highway, Ramban sector P K Phonsa said that some maintenance work has been carried out while some more time is needed for the same. The Administration will be requested again for execution of urgent repair/ maintenance work. Phonsa further said that road was through now but brief disruption was caused due to landslide at Cafeteria Morh this evening. It is being cleared now. He said stranded vehicles have been cleared and heavy traffic is also being allowed now towards Jammu and Delhi.
Meanwhile, MeT office has forecast rain and snowfall in many parts of J&K in coming three days. It has predicted snowfall at the higher reaches of Kashmir and mountainous parts of Jammu region.
