RAMBAN, May 8: The movement of vehicular traffic remained disrupted for over five hours in Ramban sector of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway after land slides and shooting stones in Mehar area today.
Official sources said that movement of traffic on this busy highway came to halt at around 3 pm on Friday, following land slides and shooting stones for few hours at two places near Cafeteria Morh and Mehar. This resulted into the abrupt suspension of the vehicles movement on this important highway connecting Kashmir and Ladakh with rest of the country.
This road patch between main Ramban bridge over river Chenab and Ramban town, has turned extremely dangerous due to frequent falling of boulders and shooting stones. The National Highway authorities deployed two machines for the road clearance but work could not be initiated for few hours due to frequent falling of boulders. The highway could be restored at around 8.15 pm and then one side movement of vehicles was allowed in the area, a Traffic Police official said.
