SRINAGAR : Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on Srinagar-Muzaffabad, capital of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), road at Narbal, about 15 km from here.
Traffic was resumed on the busy road, connecting north Kashmir with Srinagar, after the IED was defused in a nearby paddy field without causing any damage, official sources said.
They said a Road Opening Party (ROP) detected an IED, wrapped in a cloth on the roadside at Narbal, about 15 km from here on the road this morning. Traffic was suspended from both sides, they said, adding that the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned.
The BDS later took the IED into nearby field and defused it without causing any damage.
Stranded vehicles coming from north Kashmir were allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations. However, major traffic jam was witnessed on the road at several places. (UNI)
