SRINAGAR : Traffic on national highway connecting Ladakh region with the rest of Jammu and Kashmir was resumed on both the sides after remaining closed for two days due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains.
“We allowed both-way traffic today after clearing all the vehicles, stranded on both sides of the Zojila pass,” official sources said here.
They said the highway, the only road linking the region with the Kashmir Valley, was closed on May 26 due to landslides at several places. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway, put through the road.
The road was cleared yesterday though stranded vehicles were allowed to leave the place in the afternoon only when there was no threat of new landslides.
Hundreds of vehicles, carrying essentials for Ladakh region, and passengers crossed Zojila pass till late in the evening, they said, adding today vehicles from both sides were allowed.
The Srinagar-Jammu national highway was also through, they added.
