Traffic in Jammu

Sir,
Traffic condition in our city is worsening day by day in the city of temples. It is one of the issues which needs to be discussed and redressed at the earliest. Day by day it is becoming a more serious problem. Both people and  Government are evenly responsible for these conditions. People care two hoots traffic rules. They don’t  follow them at all. See, how people youngsters  run their vehicles at a breakneck speed least caring for safety of others or for themselves. One of the common sights of roads is overloading of  vehicles mainly of buses, mini-buses, auto-rickshaws and private vehicles etc.
Many a time people are seen hanging on the doors, backsides of the buses, mini-buses and dancing on the rooftops. Sometimes it becomes necessary for the people to do so because of lack of transportation faciliites. Women have to suffer a lot because of these overloadings.
There are no parking lots at the public places which causes frequent traffic jams. Situation gets more worse during the time of festivals. Massive jams causes severe problems for people. I find traffic police of no use in these situations. They are unable to cope with these conditions. These jams also cause  noise pollution. Some motorists deliberately use aggressive bullying horn which causes great nuisance. As far as the Government is concerned they have taken some steps but haven’t worked to implement them successfully. Traffic lights were set up in almost all the parts of city. But almost each of them stopped working within a month of their  installation. And still they are not working. They are of no use and don’t  know where the officials are sleeping.
Traffic police takes bribes from the people for their traffic offences such as driving without licence, wearing no seat belt, overloading, riding two wheeler without helmet etc. Now it’s a tradition to commit traffic offences, pay bribes for it and be free.
The minimum age you should for driving in our country is 18. But we can see that more than half of the riders (drivers) are below that. One wonders how they get licences  and run their vehicles. If the situation is not addressed right now, the days ahead will become more and more inconvenient.
Yours etc….
