Sir,
No proper system has so far been devised for Matadors/mini buses/buses and autos etc in Jammu city. Proper bus stops as exist in other towns and cities in the country have not been demarcated/fixed by traffic control authorities. These vehicles particularly matadors/mini buses stop in midst of roads, in front of road junctions etc. This makes it difficult for pedestrians and private car/biker drivers to ply their vehicles smoothly. This sometimes causes fatal road accidents.
Auto drivers never use meters and charge customers at their sweet will.
Traffic lights installed few months back on few crossings/squares etc have once again gone off, adding chaos and confusion for people in general and vehicle and biker drivers in particular. Inculcating proper traffic discipline is perhaps the utmost need of the hour, which could minimize the road accidents to a great extent. Some sort of traffic sense/discipline and control had developed for sometime due to installation and functioning of these traffic lights, but all in- vain. Lot of public money has perhaps been again wasted on this project.
Concerned authorities are, therefore, humbly requested to kindly look into these problems and devise a system for buses/matadors by fixing bus stops at 500 meters or so, direct these drivers/operators to stop their buses at these specified stops only.
Similarly authorities concerned may kindly not allow auto/taxi drivers to ply their vehicles without proper functional meters. Traffic lights may please be made functional at the earliest. All these as submitted above, if made practically functional, are sure to mitigate sufferings of people.
Kanaya Dhar,
Barnai
