JAMMU, Aug 22: As the deadline of the High Court to ensure the removal of the tinted glasses ended, Traffic Police geared up its activities and started impounding vehicles violating the rules.
Besides several orders issued by the Traffic Department, private and commercial vehicles were yet seen with black films in and around city areas, which reflects the tall claims of the department itself.
To ensure removal of tinted glasses from both private and commercial vehicles, High Court had set up a deadline (August 20), and now the Traffic Department has started impounding vehicles with tinted glasses except luxurious cars, which had company fitted tinted glasses, sources said.
The Traffic Department issued several orders asking motorists to remove tinted films from their vehicles on their own, so as to avoid inconvenience, sources added.
People should extend cooperation to the law enforcement agencies to avoid punitive action, they said, adding, that any hurdle in the execution of the orders can lead to inconvenience to the common man.
The impounding of commercial vehicle will cause inconvenience to the general public, so the owner and driver of such vehicles should realize their responsibility, sources said, adding that they should follow the rules to avoid unnecessary harassment.
When contacted SSP Traffic Manmohan Singh, told EXCELSIOR that as the deadline of the High Court to ensure the removal of the black films has ended, a total of 40 vehicles were impounded including Government, private and commercial vehicles.
A total of 40 vehicles were impounded after the ending of the deadline. These included two Government vehicles, one of which has been released by the order of the High Court and seven mini buses, SSP said.
“Films have been removed from around 90 per cent personnel vehicles in the city. Only commercial vehicles were found with tinted glasses. We have started impounding vehicle violating the rules, SSP said.
Asked about company fitted tinted glasses in the Luxurious cars, SSP said that in this case, they would submit their report to the High Court on August 25, and action will be taken as per High Court orders.
Earlier, the traffic cops and the local police personnel were seen scrutinizing vehicles at all prominent locations, asking offenders to remove films to avoid legal action.
