JAMMU, Sept 23: Total chaos and unprecedented traffic jams were  witnessed in the winter capital city here today as the Traffic Police failed properly regulate the traffic in view of the pre-scheduled  rally of Youth wing of Rajput Sabha.
Though the route of the Yuva Rajput Sabha rally  was already defined besides the time schedule as well, but the District Authorities and  Traffic police failed to take much pain about the diversion of the traffic to other routes  for the convenience of the general public. A large number of  public transport and other vehicles remained stranded   for hours together due to long traffic jams on city roads.
Not only on New Plot- Janipur Road, all the city roads  including BC Road, Jewel Chowk,  Canal Road, Medical College Chowk, Kachi Chawani, Parade Ground, Indira Chowk, Gumat, Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Tawi bridge etc,  remained badly choked for hours.  Even at Tawi bridges,  long traffic jams were witnessed for about two hours.   Many students travelling in school buses remained trapped in the traffic jams in the afternoon and arrived home late. Many of them could not reach to their tuition centers.
There was a total chaos and at most of the crossings and vital points, the Traffic cops were found missing today. At many places, the people were seen managing traffic at their own. There was strong resentment among the commuters and general public over the mismanagement on the part of Administration and Traffic Police department. They said that on such occasion,  it becomes the responsibility of  the Administration to divert traffic to other routes and create awareness among the public, but this time no such announcement or notice was seen in the news papers or on local TV channels as well.
An office bearer of the Yuva Rajput Sabha said that they had already intimated to the Deputy        Commissioner Jammu about the rally. He said even the time schedule of the rally/ Shobha Yatra was also mentioned.  It was their responsibility to deploy Traffic cops and divert traffic to other routes for the public convenience. It took about three to four hours for the normal flow of traffic in the city.
