JAMMU, June 29: Due to lethargic approach of the Traffic Department, the vehicular movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained suspended for hours together near Chenani from this evening, causing inconvenience to thousands of commuters.
The vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway came to standstill, when a tralla turned turtle near Chenani in district Udhampur, causing inconvenience to thousands of people especially tourists visiting the State.
According to a tourist Sourab Jain of Jaipur, a tralla turned turtle on the National Highway at around 7 pm and no one from the Traffic Department reached the spot for around three hours.
He said that hundreds of vehicles got stranded on the National Highway, which also caused inconvenience to thousands of passengers.
“We made repeated calls to the senior officials of the Traffic Department and even Police Department also, but no one paid heed to it”, he added.
“This National Highway connects Kashmir with rest of the India and men in blue should be at the disposal of the people during any incident on it. But absence of men in blue itself speaks the truth that how much the Traffic Department is sincere to provide round the clock services to the commuters”, he alleged.
“No facilities have been provided to the stranded people for over three hours. Even drinking water was not available, which added to the woes of commuters”, he added.
Mohammad Aslam, a resident of Kashmir said that there is no watch over the vehicular movement on the National Highway.
“Whenever I visit Jammu, I had never seen any traffic cop performing their duties on the National Highway during late hours and people are left at the mercy of God”, he added.
He said that men in blue are visible in the day time only to mint money from commercial vehicles plying on National Highway.
However, the vehicular movement on the National Highway remained suspended till last reports compiled.
