JAMMU, June 28: Stressing upon the need to implement the GST in the State along with rest of the country, Chamber of Traders Federation (CTF) today said that traders of the State were unable to bear the burden of double taxation.
Addressing a press conference here today Federation president Neeraj Anand reiterated CTF’s earlier demand for implementation of GST with effect from July 1, 2017.
Anand was referring to the concern and advice communicated to the J&K Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitly.
“Bereft of its own financial capacity and a very thin industrial base, our state can ill afford to postpone its benefit that shall accrue by timely implementation of GST,” he said double taxation, in case of non- implementation shall make essential commodities costlier for the consumer and shall also rob the State Govt of badly needed revenue.
CTF president urged upon all political parties to show prudence in the matter. Politics aside, they are supposed to keep the interest of the common man the upper most, they also should not disappoint all trade organizations who have always remained the back bone of revenue collection and political activities from time to time.
Expressing his full faith in the positive role played by the civil society of Jammu region during the month long holidays of Ramzan and Eid-ul-Fitr and hoped that the climate of communal harmony and peace shall continue to prevail during the one and half month long Baba Amarnath Ji Yatra that commences from today.
He also mentioned about request letter sent by Parveen Khandelwal, National secretary general “Confederation of All India Traders” to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, explaining the adverse effect to both the traders of the State and outside traders on non implementation of GST.
Anand proposed that in case of lack of consensus among political parties, the ordinance route can be a workable solution to sort out the matter for the present. Otherwise, agitation path remain one of our democratic right to exercise in that eventuality.
